Standard Life GB player, Stef Collins grabbed a huge 29 points while GB team mate, Rose Anderson contributed 22 points to the win. Steph Gandy also led Sheffield in scoring with 29 points, but it wasn't quite enough to secure the win.
UWIC head coach and Standard Life GB women under-20 head coach, Damian Jennings commented on the exhilarating game: "It was of course a very pleasing result for us after being nine down going into that last quarter against a team with some of the best offensive players in Great Britain. I was incredibly proud of the impressive way in which we chipped away, made good tactical decisions, showed maturity and patience, whilst also winning the possession battle on the boards. It was a real team response with the bench and spectators playing their part in our energy and calmness at the right moments.
"Captain, Stef Collins really changed gear in the final quarter, driving the team to attack and create stops that saw her with 29points, shooting 65% from the field, and 88% from the free throw line. She also got it done on the boards with four offensive on route to her total of seven for the game.
"Everyone contributed at the defensive end particularly, with Meg Hoffman, Kate Butters and Nicki Avery having specific assignments and at the offensive end Stef and Rose really caused problems for Sheffield.
"There are still a number of games left this season which is turning out to be the most competitive since I have been involved. We play Barking Abbey on Thursday so we remain focussed in readiness for another incredibly tough and different challenge when they come to the Archers Arena."
