Vanessa Ellis - Head Coach

Vanessa Ellis has one of the most prolific basketball backgrounds in England, male or female. She started in the sport in 1976 with the Sheffield Hatters and now 36 years later she is their Head Coach succeeding her mother, Betty Codona in the position.

Ellis played with the Hatters for nearly 30 years and through the 1990's the Sheffield club won 27 of the possible 30 league titles up for grabs.

Now also assistant coach for the Standard Life GB senior women, Vanessa once represented GB herself at the 1985 World Student Games in Japan. In 1989 she played with England's senior women and in her 11 years with the national team, she made nearly 60 playing appearances and captained the squad from 1994-2000.

In 2000 she retired as a player and began her coaching career as England's senior women assistant coach, a position she held until 2005. In 2006 she was appointed head coach of Great Britain's Under 20 Women and two years later was named assistant coach to the British senior squad - a position she holds to date.
