One of the most dominant players in the domestic British game, Naylor will be hoping she and younger sister Helen can line up alongside each other in the 2012 London Olympics.

Her mother Des, a long-term player and coach at the Doncaster Panthers club, introduced Sarah, and later Helen, to the sport as members of the club’s development programme. After spending the 1999-2002 seasons with the Panthers, Naylor spent the following three seasons with the Nottingham Wildcats before joining the Sheffield Hatters in 2005.

Naylor was still with the Hatters in the 2009-10 season and, among many honours, has collected three league championships, three regular season championships and a National Cup during that period, as well as being named the 2008 EBL Domestic Player of the Year.

The 6’0” forward, who is four years older than Helen, had been on the international radar from under-16 level when she made her England debut, and went on to represent her country at under-18, under-20 and senior levels as well as playing for the GB side at the 2005 World University Games.

In 2006, she made her debut for the new-look GB side as they began life in the B Division of Eurobasket and, although she missed out on duty for the squad in 2007 and 2008, she was back in the team in 2009 for the relegation play-offs, teaming up at international level with Helen for the first time.

Damian Jennings says: “Sarah has a fantastic perimeter game and is an intelligent basketball player. She is such a team player and we enjoy having her around immensely. She has long arms and plays defence so intelligently that she plays at a higher level than her athleticism might allow sometimes – a real coach’s player.”
