International Career:

Stafford first appeared for GB in 2010 after some outstanding performances for Barking Abbey in the EBL. She holds the GB record for most points in a quarter (15), set against Portugal in 2010. At EuroBasket Finals Women in 2011, she had 18 points against Turkey and 14 against Russia in the group stages and led the team from the front with a string of ‘never-say-die’ performances.

Club career:

Sydney University Flames (2010- ), Barking Abbey Leopards (2009-10), Sydney Panthers (1999-03), Dandeenong, Australia (1998-99), Oregon University (1996-8)

Having attended Oregon University in the USA, Natalie debuted in the WNBL with Dandenong in 1998 before beginning an association with Sydney Panthers a year later. She helped the club to the WNBL title in 2001 and was named in the league’s All Star team the following season alongside Australian internationals Lauren Jackson and Penny Taylor.

Moving to the UK, she returned from a hiatus to complete a single campaign with Barking Abbey Leopards in 2009-10 and then returned to Sydney with the Flames.

Personal:

Natalie’s brother Danny was also a professional basketballer, playing in the Australian NBL with Brisbane Bullets. Her great-uncle was Frank Hughes who was the first Australian golfer to play overseas in the early 20th century. She is a fan of NRL rugby league side Parramatta Eels. Married to David Stafford.

Trivia:

Works as a primary school teacher and taught in Essex before being snapped up to the GB squad.
