International Career:

Yet to make her senior debut for Great Britain, Mairi was forced to pull out of the squad for the 2011 EuroBasket Women Finals while recovering from back to back surgeries to repair stress fractures in her foot. However, she recovered to play for GB in the 2011 World University Games in China.

She represented GB in the European Under-20 Championships in 2008 and again in 2010 when Buchan averaged 10.7ppg and 7.7 rpg as the team won promotion into Division A for the first time in its history.

However Mairi has played for Scotland at senior international level, debuting at the age of 16 in the 2006 European Promotion Cup. She has featured at Under-16 and Under-18 level for Scotland, winning the European Championship Division C title in 2005 in Aberdeen while averaging 18.2 ppg and 13 rpg in 2006.

Club career:

Old Dominion (2008- ), Falkirk Fury, UK (2002-8)

Starting her career with Scottish League side Falkirk Fury, Mairi dominated at every level. During the 2007-8 season, was named as the Most Valuable Player at senior and Under-18 levels, leading the senior level in scoring with 26 points per game, while once scoring 54 in an Under-18 contest. She won the Scottish Cup at Under-16 level in 2006.

Moving on a scholarship to Old Dominion University in Virginia, USA, Buchan played in all 30 games and twice scored a NCAA career-high 15 points. In her sophomore year, she played in 32 of 33 games, making eight starts. However foot injuries forced her to miss the 2010-11 season before returning in 2011-12.

Personal:

The daughter of Daughter of Allan and Mairi Buchan, she has one brother, Cameron who has featured in the GB Under-20 squad but who is now pursuing a rowing career at Northeastern University in the USA. Mairi was named in Virginia’s Academic All-State Team. She was the first basketball player selected to the new 2012 Potential Programme. Gained five A-Grades in her Highers exams at school.

Trivia:

Mairi is studying for a degree in biology but is keeping her options open to pursue a career in medicine.
